About San Mateo County
San Mateo County is located between San Francisco and Santa Clara Counties. It has some of the most scenic and varied geography in the United States including redwood forests, farmlands, tidal marshes, rolling hills, creeks and beaches. The county is the 14th most populated in California. Redwood City serves as the county seat, and is home to one of the most prestigious cities in the nation – Atherton. While Atherton has been home to celebrities including Ty Cobb, Willie Mays, Charles R. Schwab and Shirley Temple, it is not the largest city in the county; San Mateo takes that prize. Some of the biggest companies in the country call this county home, including Oracle, Corp., Electronic Arts and Facebook, and some of the top venture capital firms in the Bay Area. The San Francisco International Airport is the second largest in the state and is geographically located in San Mateo County.
