Portola Valley is located in San Mateo County and is one of the wealthiest towns in America. Forbes Magazine reported the town’s 94028 zip code was the 31st most expensive in the Nation in 2010. Portola Valley has a good balance of modern developments with an old town feel. Opened in 2008, the town’s center provides all the amenities of a bigger city (i.e. a library, community hall, recreational fields, Town Hall, and a variety of classes offered to all ages) but was built to blend into the natural landscape. In fact, the area has architectural guidelines for all Portola Valley homes and buildings that stress blending into the area’s extensive open space and natural views. The town provides excellent public schools and students attend the Portola Valley School District, two private schools, and use the Peninsula Library System. This town emphasizes preserving its open space and small town feel, but is conveniently located near the nightlife of Palo Alto, Los Altos and Menlo Park.
